“Curiosity killed the cat” is an expression that everyone has heard of, but not many people know the second part - “Satisfaction brought it back”. I like the proverbs. My curiosity to the life sciences starts when I learned that my high school mathematics teacher suffered from breast carcinoma, and I found that tumors are not far away from our daily life. I'm currently a senior student studying for a BS in Pharmacy at Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology,which is ranked top 10 in China, among the first Universities joining the national “211 Project” and “985 Project长春吉康”. I am highly interested in the practical lab w伦理片97影视网ork. I was honored to be a group leader in my second year of studies to lead the preparation of angelica polysaccharide oral liquid solution. Angelica is a traditional Chinese medicine for treating anemia. Angelica polysaccharide is its main ingredient and can reduce anemia effectively and strengthen the body's immunity.

At the beginning of the experiments, our professor advised us to use the method of alkali precipitating-acid extracting. This method has been used in the laboratories for several ye钱庄血案ars. However, the result was disappointing. A large amount of precipitations often appeared in one month later and the content of polysaccharide decreased, which resulted in the loss of active ingredient. I worked very hard with my team and started a new experiment with ZTC as clarificant to extract angelica polysaccharide. The result was very exciting because the oral liquid was steady without precipitation. This improved method is also cheaper to setup and easy to use. The outcome could produce a sufficient amount of polysaccharide.

In the summer of 2012, I worked as an intern in the Drug Formulation Department at WuXi AppTec Co Ltd (www.wuxiapptec.com), which is a leading global CRO company producing pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, and medical device with operations in China and the United States. During my internship, the team was working on designing a sustained-release tablet for an antidepressant medication. I worked with the team and senior scientists and learned wet granulation, drying, mixing, tabletting and coating. Such excellent working environments also trained me familiar with several modern equipment, including TAP density, screening instrument and tablet press, coating machine, vibrating fluidizedbed dryer, three dimensional motions mixer and granulator. This intern experience enabled me to understand multinational company culture and requirement, including tight quality control, diligence with test procedures, and many new skills that I hadn't come across at university.

In addition, I also obtained summer internship at Fudan University School of Pharmacy on weekends in last summer. Basically, in 7 days a week, I worked in the pharmacology laboratory and was fascinated by all the experiments, including Elisa kit, western blot, PCR, isolating the neonatal rat cardiac fibroblasts from the heart, cell culture and transfection. During the process of the research investigation, many multidisciplinary skills and training are involved. I can learn how to combine all kinds of elements into consideration and operate a whole program. This experience will help me have a better understanding of pharmacy/pharmaceuticals and improve my practical skills.
